2023-24 JW Doubles Winners Jason Stedman & Tony Aldridge
Played on Wednesday May 15th at St Denys Cons
Tony Aldridge & Jason Stedman 200-182 Derek Fry & Brian Bull
Totton claim the Jim Watts Doubles Trophy for the first time since 2016 when a slightly younger Tony Aldridge paired Lee Fitzpatrick to glory, Tony and Jason got off to a great start as they looked to run down the 102 handicap deficit of Derek & Brian, a slightly nervy period of play ensued with slight errors from both sides as the finishing line loomed closer and closer leaving the door open for someone to stamp his authority on the game, it was Tony Aldridge with a flash of brilliance that got them over the line as he ended the contest with a fine 25 break unfinished whilst his partner cheered him on. Jason and Tony's win dealt a blow to Brian and Derek's hopes of repeating the 2017 doubles victory, the Totton pair only joined forces for the first time this season but looked like they had played together for years and maybe a strong partnership for next season when they will look to defend the title.
The win also lifts Tony 3 places into the top 10 of the SDBSA player rankings for another season.
Thanks to Robin Smith and Malc Willis for the refereeing efforts.
