John and Danny have had some brilliant battles over the years in the Gordon Lewis Scratch but this was truly magnificent and "a brilliant run of play from both players". The first 1 hour session saw Danny seizing a slight advantage of 9 points (264 points to John's 255) giving an indication of how tight this final would prove to be, both had extremely similar breaks too with Danny registering breaks of 90, 51 and 43 compared to John's 82, 52 and 42.
The second session was all set to be a cracker...
And so it continued with both players trading blows and top quality breaks, yet again the scoring was very similar with Danny adding a 63, 40 and 32 to his earlier efforts with John again matching the quality producing a 71, 51 and 33. If any match ever deserved 2 winners it would be this one but with a narrow 567-552 score line John had just eclipsed his team mate to add another GL title. Thanks go to Tony Aldridge and David Gillingham for refereeing the final! with this kind of quality in our league I am sure the SDBSA will have a bright future!

After 2 good scoring Semi Finals the final was a little more of a nervy affair with neither player wanting to concede early points, Nick hit first with a 20 but Mark duly replied with a 19 of his own to hold a narrow lead, the scoring was tit for tat pretty much and with only a third of the game remaining were level 105-105! the scoring stayed tight until Mark established a 24 point lead with what was a fine 18 given the pressure, Nick tried to rally with the clock ticking down but Mark dealt the hammer blow in the final minutes by knocking in a 22 to set an obtainable lead, breathing a sigh of relief as he had finally got over the line to the applaud of his supporters on the night.
