Brian Bull in action for Curdridge

Chandlers Ford seal yet another title!

Chandlers Ford have claimed their 3rd league title in a row with a late draw against Park Gate, John Mullane had breaks of 54, 57, 31, 46 and 100 to beat Paul Lawrence and a return to form for Terry Azor who secured Chandlers 2nd win of the evening with his seasons highest break of 78 (42, 78, 75), it was Chandlers only 2 wins of the evening but was enough to claim the aggregate point, Steve Boterhoek won his game and Park Gate welcomed back Paul Tavender for only his 2nd game of the season in which he rolled in a 37 on the way to beating Danny Zagaroli, there was a rare outing for Chris Pullen too who also got on the scoresheet. Chandlers turnover of top talent continued in 22-23 signing David Gillingham who settled very quickly to life in the SDBSA with the seasons 3rd highest break of 117 and reaching the semi final of the Gordon Lewis. We all look forward to Chandlers signing Dave Causier for next season!! Korbin Lowe set a new personal best league break of 96 unfinished in an excellent campaign winning 8 out of 10 league games.

Curdridge had a great campaign and must be wondering how they lost given that they won 3 more matches than any other team, they were in incredible form all season long with 4 of their players moving into the top 13 rankings, Robin Smith is now ranked 5th but his 5341 ranking points from league games is the highest of the season and will secure a spot on next seasons wall of fame. A well deserved trophy soon followed after the disappointment of missing the league title by 2 points in the form of a Usher Shield win.

Churchills found some Gems in the transfer market this season with Steven Hughes among others that shone for the Eastleigh side, Steve reached the Semi Final of the Gordon Lewis beating some excellent players on his journey including a win over myself in the last 8! Churchills narrowly missed out on a trophy this season losing in the final of the Usher Shield but also finished 3rd in the league, they will be the ones to watch next season given the current and new pool of talent. I would like to wish a speedy recovery to Derek Foster and Trevor Sanders who were missed this year through illness, hopefully we will see them both back in action before the 2023-24 season gets underway.

Totton Rec finished the season in 4th place with 7 wins, It was a tough start for captain Steve Allen who played on through injury, and saw a return to form towards the end of the campaign knocking in a 60unf in the league and a couple of competition 70s. Tony Aldridge flew the flag for Totton as he claimed the Stuart Hamper individual title and becomes the first player to receive the new trophy. Totton seems to have signed an exciting player for next season in Jason Stedman who has shone in his few games towards the seasons end.

Hamble had a rough start to the season but managed to secure a mid table spot thanks to a late resurgence, Nick Wood was again the standout player as he battles for the leagues No. 1 ranking spot, a seasons highest break of 68 was among a host of 30 plus breaks showing his consistency. Hamble will look to bounce back next season having secured trophy's for the previous 4 seasons although they still have a chance for victory in the Jim Watts pairs to keep the run going.

After a reasonable start for St Denys it all started to unravel in December, with only one win since its seen them slip to 3rd bottom. Chris Bishop had his seasons highest break in the very 1st visit of the new season scoring 80 points from Derek Fry's break off! Tom Emm had a standout season as he has became a key player for St Denys and along with Chris won 9 league games. New blood is needed though with only 6 available players to choose from all season!

Park Gate was the form team at the end of last season but have had a rough time of it, Gary Wilton has settled into his second season and has embraced all of the competitions, he has been Park Gate's star player winning 8 league games and moving to 10th in the rankings, Paul Lawrence has kept himself in the top 10 of the rankings with 10 wins in all competitions with Ian Finch getting Park Gate's highest break of 60.

Sarisbury definitely played a season of 2 halves having a poor start but having 4 win and 2 draws in their last 6 games of the season, it was not enough to escape the wooden spoon but will give great encouragement for next season as the 22 points accumulated in them 6 games was title winning form!

Korbin Lowe hits a 96 unfinished

Lowe finishes on a High as Chandlers move a step closer to the title!

Chandlers Ford are now just 4 points from claiming the league title as they fought hard against Churchills to claim a 3-3 draw. Korbin Lowe was the star of the night as he hit a 53 and then finished with a great 96 break which is his highest in the Southampton Billiards League as he restricted his opponent to just 20 points, Danny Zagaroli also won with breaks of 56, 64 and 44 which sends him back to the top of the player rankings. It was the impressive trio of Jerry Warren (36 break), Steve Hughes and Dave Lovejoy that secured the draw for Churchills as Chandlers won the bonus aggregate point.

Park Gate upset the form guide as they overcame recent losses with a 5-1 win at home to Totton Rec, Mick Kunzi was the pick for the away side securing the lone point with a 34 break, Ian Finch led the home charge with a fine 42 break and was supported well by Paul Lawrence, Gary Wilton and Steve Boterhoek.

Mark Spridgeon played twice and won twice for Hamble away at St Denys as he led them to a 4-2 win. Chris Bishop with a 42 break got the first for the home team with St Denys top scorer Tom Emm getting the second, Hamble's Rob Shattock secured the win with a narrow victory against Ade Bridger.

Sarisbury look to be finishing the season well after a tough start to the campaign as they won 4-2 in their 3rd game out of 4 with their unbeaten run continuing, John Oldfield hit a 32 break as he won again for the 3rd straight week with Chris Collinson and Ian Pardey assisting well,  Derek Fry and Clive Gamblin rallied for Curdridge but their title hopes narrowed significantly as they suffered just the 4th defeat of the season.

Tony Aldridge (35, 34 breaks) stars for Totton Rec

Patience is key for Curdridge as Totton dismantle the champions!

Curdridge, eager to continue their title fight turned up for their match nice and early against Park Gate, so early in fact they had to wait 7 days for the match to start! The mishap was worth the wait though as they left with a valuable 5-1 victory to lift them back to the summit, the reliable Gary Wilton getting the only point for Park Gate.  Captain Paul Lawrence managed a 31 but lost to his opposite number Brian Bull who also ran in a 31, the in-form Rob Smith won yet again making it his 9th League win of the season! and 14th in all competitions which keeps him 3rd in this seasons Order Of Merit, there were also wins for Clive Gamblin and Richard Marshall as Curdidge left a week late but with the title lead.

Captain Steve Allen's turn around in form has clearly had an effect on the whole team as Totton Rec put on a devastating display against the current champions, not just beating them 5-1 but by a mind blowing 656 aggregate points!  Steve, with a string of breaks (47, 38 and 35) got the better of Danny Zagaroli (38, 30, 35) early on and Mike Thatcher doing equally as well in restricting his opponent to just 1 point on the board. But it was Tony Aldridge who pulled off the best result of the night and perhaps the season as he tamed the untameable John Mullane (66) and limiting him to just 12 points on the board in the process , his 35 and 34 breaks adding the icing on the memorable win, Mick Kunzi also had a great evening with breaks of 38 & 35 against Terry Azor, while Dave White managed to avoid the whitewash for Chandlers.

Hamble and Sarisbury held each other to a draw, giving some much needed points for the away side. Nick Wood had breaks of 48 & 39 in a win that lifted him to 2nd in the player rankings and 1st in this seasons Order of Merit, Tony Spridgeon was also on target for the home side and between them secured big enough wins to secure the bonus aggregate point. Ian Pardey, Kas Remzi and the returning Steve Gardiner were the victors for Sarisbury Social as the look to end the season with a flourish.

Mark McLean hits breaks of 55 and 40

Churchills Start 2023 with a maximum points haul!

Churchills celebrate the new year in style as they dismantle Totton 6-0. he new rule change pitting players against similar handicaps has produced some epic matches, this week was no different as Mark McLean (55 & 40 breaks) faced off against Steve Allen (52, 38, 32) with both players hitting good form and 50+ breaks along the way , Mark ended up winning it for the home side which helped them secure a memorable night!  wins for Steve Hulbert and Mike Henstredge got the first points on the board with Jerry Warren supporting well in an excellent win over Mick Kunzi, Dave Lovejoy sealed the deal for Churchills against Brian Cannons.

Curdridge won yet again as they beat St Denys 4-2 with Robin Smith and Derek Fry putting them 2 up, Dave Fry made a rare appearance to add a third for the home side, St Denys then responded as Chris Bishop won against Clive Gamblin and in doing so jumped to Number 1 in this seasons and the overall Player Rankings! Tom Emm played twice on the night and secured his last game by a nail biting 3 points to help limit the damage.

Park Gate and Hamble shared the spoils 3-3, Paul Lawrence inflicting a rare defeat on Nick Wood, Paul Knights levelled it for Hamble then Tony Spridgeon made a 30 break but fell short against Park's Gary Wilton who put the home side 2-1 up, Mark Spridgeon continued his resurgence in form levelling the match, Steve Boterhoek won the final game but fell short of securing the aggregate point as it finished at 3-3.

Gillingham adds a century to his excellent debut season!

David Gillingham signs off 2022 with a magnificent 117 break after already compiling a fine 57, and with a season ranking of 5 is proving to be a great addition to our league, his win along with Trevor Thorn's (59 break) and the ever improving Korbin Lowe (55 break) ensured Chandlers Ford stay unbeaten winning 4-2 at home over Park Gate, Chris Christodoulou and Steve Boterhoek were the wiiners for Park.

Tony Aldridge added some Christmas sparkle to his win over Malc Willis finishing off with a 34 break as a great clash between Chris Bishop and Steve Allen evolved on the other table, Chris took a big lead with a 53 break but Steve found the perfect moment to rekindle his form and countered with breaks of 36, 35 and 58, Ryan Longhurst had a great game for Totton giving them a 4-2 win. Fortunately for St Denys the father and son duo of Mark and Tom Emm both turned up in great form to rescue a couple of points for St Denys.

Curdridge had a rough time away at Hamble with Clive Gamblin being the sole winner in a 5-1 reverse, inflicting a rare defeat on Nick Wood (35, 37). Mark and Tony Spridgeon both shone for Hamble as did Rob Shattock and Paul Knights, after a bad start Hamble sit just 4 points off of 2nd place as the middle order condenses.

A great 5-1 away win for Churchills keeps them alongside Hamble in the table, good wins from Mike Henstredge, Mark Mclean, Dave Lovejoy and Steve Hulbert gave them the big points haul with the experienced John Oldfield rescuing a point for Sarisbury Social.

I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and may the excellent standard continue into 2023!

Danny Zagaroli skippers Chandlers Ford to victory

One sided affair in the top of table clash!

Chandlers Ford and Curdridge faced off in the top of the table title fight with the home side running rampant in a 6-0 win, Vice Captain Danny got the match underway with breaks of 42, 36, 33, 36, and 38 in a big win over Clive Gamblin, the rest of the team followed suit with everyone putting on a champions performance. John Mullane hit another century (104) along with breaks of 50, 79, 39, 43 and the talented David Gillingham was next up hitting his seasons highest break of 91 accompanied with a fine 46 in a great win over the Curdridge Captain Brian Bull (32 Break). Young Oshay Scott (32 Break) and Dave White completed the whitewash.

St Denys Clinched a narrow 4-2 win away at Park Gate, Chris Bishop (34), Adie Bridger and Mark Emm (34) done the damage for the away side,  Paul Lawrence responded with a fine 50 break and Steve Boterhoek hit top form to narrow the defeat and keep Park Gate above St Denys by one point in the table.

Each team could only field 4 players in the Churchills v Hamble tie and it was the away side that benefitted with a 5-1 win. Hamble's Nick Wood played twice and won twice with breaks of 36 and a couple of 32's as he cemented his 2nd place in the player rankings, Mark Spridgeon hit a 34 and Rob Shattock continued his great season with another win. Steve Hulbert played twice for the home team and grabbed their only point of the night in the last game.

Sarisbury suffered another defeat, this time at home to Totton Rec as they went down 1-5. Geoff Knapp had a superb win as he overcame Tony Aldridge with a 61 point margin but that was as good as it got for John Oldfield's men, Ryan Longhurst made a rare appearance for Totton as he hit a 31 break with Mike Thatcher grabbing another, the in-form Mick Kunzi and Brian Cannons sealed the win having now won 9 out of the 12 games they have played combined.
